No more $1 DVD rentals. That's right, in October, DVD rental kiosk operator Redbox upped its standard price by 20% to $1.20, citing rising costs. DVD prices weren't the only ones to see a hike: Blu-ray rentals shot up even higher from $1.50 to $2. Unfortunately for Redbox, the economy and unhappy consumers aren't likely to be the end of its financial woes. Hollywood studios may soon embargo DVD releases twice as long, leaving Redbox at the mercy of its on-demand competitors.
