Carol Ann Susi, actress on ‘The Big Bang Theory,’ dies at 62

Actress Carol Ann Susi, best known for her recurring role as Mrs. Wolowitz on CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory,” has died, her agent, Pam Ellis-Evenas, confirmed to the Los Angeles Times

Susi died Tuesday morning in Los Angeles after a “brief battle with an aggressive cancer,” Ellis-Evenas said. She was 62.

Susi was in numerous TV shows through her career, including roles in “The Night Stalker,” “Cheers,” “Doogie Howser, M.D.,” “Mad About You,” “Just Shoot Me” and “Seinfeld.”

On “The Big Bang Theory,” which is in its eighth season, Susi played the mother of supporting character Howard Wolowitz. Although Mrs. Wolowitz is never seen on screen, Susi’s voice -- always yelling -- often set up fantastic jokes, most of the time at her nerdy son’s expense.

“In addition to her talent, Carol Ann was a constant source of joy and kindness to all,” according to a statement from Warner Bros. “Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with her family during this time, and we will miss her greatly.”

Susi also appeared in numerous stage productions, including Justin Tanner’s “Heartbreak Help” and “Coyote Woman.” In addition, she was in the original cast of “Ladies’ Room,” by Robin Schiff.

Susi is survived by her brother, Michael Susi, and his wife, Connie, according to Ellis-Evenas.
