EMP Museum in Seattle offers VR ‘Game of Thrones’ experience

Westeros, the fantasy continent depicted in the HBO series “Game of Thrones,” is beautiful. It’s too bad you can’t visit in real life. Or maybe you can.

Yes, the series shoots in the real countries of Ireland, Iceland and Croatia, among others, but you could fly to all those places and still never see anything as impressive as the Wall, the 700-foot ice barrier that separates the Seven Kingdoms from the wild and untamed north.

But now the EMP Museum in Seattle is offering not just a chance to visit the Wall, but to scale the sucker.

“Game of Thrones: Ascend the Wall” is a 4-D virtual reality experience that will put visitors inside Castle Black, fortress of the Night’s Watch, and allow them to ride the elevator that takes warriors to the top of the Wall.

The experience, which uses the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset and headphones, is part of the exhibit “Fantasy: Worlds of Myth and Magic,” which also features costumes, props and other artifacts from the hit HBO series.

The exhibit will open on Nov. 13 and remain at the museum until Jan. 4, 2015.
