NBC renews five dramas including ‘The Blacklist’, ‘Law & Order: SVU’

On Thursday NBC announced the renewal of five of its drama series for the 2015-16 season.

The network, which is currently in first place with viewers under 50, has ordered new seasons of “The Blacklist,” “Grimm,” “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago P.D.” and “Law & Order: SVU.”

“The creative vision of the executive producers who’ve guided these outstanding dramas has been nothing short of incredible,” NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke said in a news release. “We’re highly appreciative of the passion they bring to their shows at every step of the creative process and we’re thrilled to reward that dedication with these renewals.”

The renewal for “The Blacklist,” one of the top-rated broadcast shows with viewers 18 to 49 years old, comes as no surprise. The drama starring James Spader is in its second season and was given the plum post-game slot following Sunday’s Super Bowl before its move from Mondays to Thursdays this week.

The supernatural drama “Grimm” has been a success story for the network on Friday nights, averaging a live plus same-day audience of about 5 million viewers and getting a big boost once time-shifted viewing is factored in. Set in Portland, Ore., and produced by Universal Television, the series is in its fourth season.

NBC’s long and fruitful partnership with producer Dick Wolf continues with the renewals for “Chicago P.D.”, “Chicago Fire” and “Law & Order: SVU.” “Chicago Fire” will return for its fourth season and “Chicago P.D.” for its third. Both are from Universal Television.

Meanwhile “Law & Order: SVU” will return for a staggering 17th season this fall. Starring Emmy winner Mariska Hargitay as Det. Olivia Benson, it is the longest-running drama currently on television and remains a steady performer in the ratings.
