‘True Blood’ recap: Time running out for vampire Bill?

With the deadly hepatitis V virus spreading rapidly through his veins, vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) tries to put his affairs in order on “Karma,” Episode 76 of HBO’s “True Blood.”

Bill wants to leave everything to his progeny, Jessica Hamby (Deborah Ann Woll). But he receives discouraging news from attorney Madeline Kapnek (Kathleen York).

Under Louisiana law, Bill can’t simply pass his estate to Jessica. He could adopt her, but that might take up to a year. The solution? Pay $10 million and expedite the process.

“Are you trying to extort me?” Bill asks, calling Madeline a greedy “vulture.” He abruptly ends the appointment by stabbing Madeline in the throat and leaving her to die.

When Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) learns about Bill’s condition, she immediately goes to a clinic for a hep-V test. The results are devastating.

“I did this to him,” Sookie tearfully tells Jessica. “I didn’t know. I didn’t mean to!”

Sookie’s brother Jason (Ryan Kwanten) is also in turmoil. He’s fallen for Jessica and decides to break off his relationship with Violet Mazurski (Karolina Wydra), an ancient vampire with lethal tendencies.

When Jason nervously arrives at Violet’s house, he’s greeted with romantic music, flaming candles and sexy lingerie. But the seduction fails to win Jason’s heart and Violet flies into a rage.

Out for vengeance, Violet comes upon half-faerie Adilyn Bellefleur (Bailey Noble) and her teen boyfriend Wade Cleary (Noah Matthews). Because they’ll soon be step-siblings, their sexual fling must stop. Now they’re hiding in a treehouse, afraid to return home.

“I have a place you can go” Violet says with a sly smile. “Who am I to stand in the way of true love?”

Elsewhere in Bon Temps, Lettie Mae Daniels (Adina Porter) longs for another hit of vampire blood so she can contact her dead vamp daughter Tara Thornton (Rutina Wesley).

Lafayette Reynolds (Nelsan Ellis) knows his auntie is a drug addict but agrees to one more trip.

They soon see a vision of Tara hanging on a cross with a snake coiled round her neck. Then Tara runs through a forest to her childhood home and digs furiously in the yard.

At this point, they’re interrupted by Lettie Mae’s husband, the Rev. Daniels (Gregg Daniel). He says his wife must choose between him and vamp blood.

“My baby girl is trying to tell me something,” Lettie Mae exclaims. “I ain’t going to ignore it. This is something I have to do!”

In Dallas, meanwhile, Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgård) and his progeny Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) join forces with Mr. Gus (Will Yun Lee), the North American president of the company that manufactures Tru Blood.

They have a common enemy in Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp), who poisoned the synthetic blood supply with hep-V.

“Sarah Newlin killed my sister,” Eric says. “And when I find her, I’m going to wrap my hands around her neck and snap her little blond bobblehead right off.”

Where’s Sarah? Fearing for her life, she’s laying low in the home of her vampire sister Amber Mills (Natalie Hall), who’s dying of hep-V.

“I know you’re sore at me, but you’re all I have left,” Sarah pleads, contending she’s a different person after discovering her true self at a Los Angeles ashram.

Claiming she was “put on this planet to help people,” Sarah reveals that scientists created a cure for hep-V. And she drank the antidote -- every last drop.

“Everything has all come full circle,” Sarah insists. “I can heal you!” And that’s just what she does.

So does this mean the hep-V pandemic might be ending?
