Watch ‘The Simpsons’ opening redone as pixel art
The opening sequence of “The Simpsons” is iconic. Which makes sense because it’s been playing on TV everywhere since 1989. But it’s hard to realize just how iconic it is until someone decides to re-create it in another style.
Animators Paul Robertson and Ivan Dixon have painstakingly re-created the opening sequence in the style of many video games from the 1990s, complete with an 8-bit version of Danny Elfman’s theme song.
Fans of old Nintendo games will find several references to “Super Mario Bros.” among other gaming classics and many references to specific “Simpsons” episodes. It’s definitely one to watch again and pause when appropriate.
Robertson first released the video on Super Bowl Sunday.
This isn’t the first time “The Simpsons” has been redone in another format. Back in 2006, Sky One enlisted live actors to re-create the opening to promote the channel.
On YouTube, you can find the opening redone in Legos, Minecraft, “Grand Theft Auto” and directed by Guillermo del Toro. Additionally, an all-Lego episode of “The Simpsons” aired in May 2014.
