White hat: Bret Maverick and Bart Maverick are two indispensable white hats with two indispensable $1,000 bills pinned to the inside of their coats. Bret Maverick, played by James Garner, above, was almost interchangeable with his brother Bart, played by Jack Kelly. Both were rambling Texas gamblers, hopping from Mississippi riverboat to Mississippi riverboat in search of a their next great hand or gorgeous dame. Arguably some of the first television antiheroes the duo feigned cowardliness while acting valiantly in the name of justice. It's what their pappy would have wanted. Black hat: One of many Maverick outlaws, Doc Holliday, played by Gerald Mohr and Peter Breck, was a dynamic black hat. His career began as a ruthless, drunken gun-slinging outlaw, but later mellowed to a congenial con artist that tangled the brothers into financial scams.
