O'Brien's stint as host of "The Tonight Show" was a long time coming, but lasted only seven months. When word came down from the NBC execs that former host Jay Leno would be moving back to the 11:35 p.m. time slot, O'Brien decided to walk. While he added a flair of humor to his final episode, telling the crowd, "We have one hour to steal every single item in this studio," he left things on a serious note. "All I ask of you, especially young people ... is one thing. Please don't be cynical," he said into the camera. "I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen."
