Talking TV: How did Jimmy Fallon do?

Share

After weeks, months and even years of hype, Jimmy Fallon took over the “Tonight Show” on Monday night, right smack in the middle of the Winter Olympics, which was itself marked by the return of pink eye survivor Bob Costas.

So, how’d he do?

Well, he kicked a lot more dirt than previous hosts, bringing his wide-eyed “who me?” mien to his brand-spanking new set, where he introduced his parents and gushed over his new baby before introducing typically big debut guests Will Smith and U2. Some found this charming, others tedious, but either way it was a slo-gro beginning, and certainly in wild contrast to Conan O’Brien’s over the top debut a few years ago.
