ABC Family is renewing “Switched at Birth” for a third season and has ordered more episodes of freshman dramas “The Fosters” and “Twisted” for their first seasons, the network announced Tuesday.

The eclectic trio will return with new episodes in January 2014, alongside the network’s queen bee “Pretty Little Liars.”

“Switched at Birth,” which features a mix of deaf, hearing and hard-of-hearing characters, has become a sturdy performer for the network, averaging 2.4 million viewers.

“The Fosters,” which centers on a bi-racial lesbian couple and their brood of biological, adopted and foster children, premiered to 1.4 million viewers and has steadily built upon that with each new episode. The network’s new thrill “Twisted” opened to 1.6 million viewers, no doubt benefiting from the network’s superstar “Pretty Little Liars” as its lead-in. Both series will complete their full-season orders, with their remaining 10 episodes now greenlit.

The drama pickups join the comedy pickups announced earlier this year, including the fourth season of “Melissa and Joey” and the third season of “Baby Daddy.”

Of course, the news is also bittersweet, coming on the heels of the network’s decision to cancel its ballet drama “Bunheads.”
