‘Avengers’ cast gathers to play ‘Family Feud’ on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’

Once upon a time, all a movie star had to do to promote their big upcoming blockbuster was to show up on a late night talk show and tell a few carefully chosen anecdotes. These days, the trend is toward games. Show up and play a game and people will (hopefully) go see your movie.

So Monday night, we had the entire cast of “Avengers: Age of Ultron” gathered on the stage of “Jimmy Kimmel Live” to play “Family Feud.” Jimmy Kimmel was the host and the “families” were divided into The Americas -- Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo -- and The Mans -- Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johannsen, Chris Hemsworth.

To say the game was played loosely would be an understatement. Kimmel barely even registered that there was a winner.

“Typically, tequila doesn’t play as much of a role in the game as it will tonight,” Kimmel said over the hubbub of his rowdy crew.

It’s a strange experience to watch A-list actors attempt to play a game show on late night TV, as they seem to alternate between being really into it and blowing the whole thing off. It’s a tricky line to walk.

Thankfully, the cast of “Avengers” seem to be pros. At least they managed to answer some questions correctly and the whole thing didn’t become a variation of “SNL’s” “Celebrity Jeopardy” sketch.
