‘Biggest Loser’ recap: Save of a lifetime, Week 3 curse?

Share

Dolvett to the rescue! Who needs a red cape when you have a red sleeveless tank?!?

If there was ever a save needed on “The Biggest Loser,” it was this week. No offense to Fernanda, who had the painful distinction of being the first (and so far, only) person eliminated this season, but has gone on to lose more than 50 pounds on her own and seems well on her way to vying for the at-home prize.

But arguably no one has ever needed saving quite like Tanya.

She told a heart-wrenching tale of abuse and neglect at the hands of a teenage drug-addicted mom who made a point of striking Tanya in the face whenever anyone remarked on her blossoming beauty.

“If someone complimented me, she would hit me in the face,” Tanya said. She sobbed when she wondered why her relatives, who were aware of the abuse, stood by and did nothing. “Nobody saved me. Nobody came to my rescue.... I was worth saving, but they didn’t save me.”

So it wasn’t exactly a surprise when Tanya stood on the scale at the weigh-in and lost precisely nothing. It seems to happen often on the show -- at the exact moment someone has an emotional or psychological breakthrough, they fall short on the scale through no fault of their own. (Perhaps it’s the body making one last bid to hang on the protective layer of fat? Or perhaps it’s far less dramatic, just a plateau.)

Nearly all the players’ weight loss numbers were lackluster this week. It seems as if the trainers are able to beat the dreaded Week 2 curse by simply working the competitors into the ground. But they cannot dodge it entirely, leading perhaps to a new problem: The Week 3 curse. Many of the guys lost paltry sums. Ruben, for example, lost only three pounds.

The lack of weight loss meant the red team lost the weigh-in after winning two weeks in a row. And it sent Tanya below the dreaded red line, meaning immediate elimination.

Unless.

Unless Dolvett used his one and only opportunity to save her. And of course, that’s exactly what he did.

Did this episode making you fall in love with Dolvett all over again? At the very least, it’s proof why he’s been able to stick around while other visiting trainers haven’t made the cut!

Speaking of Dolvett: Did anyone actually get what he said when he found out that this week’s twist was taking away fitness equipment. It was something like, “We’re gonna do whatta do baby, and we’re going to make this thing work.”

I propose we put this on a T-shirt: #TeamDolvett
