Bill O’Reilly sparks controversy with Justin Combs remark

Share

Ever controversial Fox News commentator Bill O’Reilly has stirred up yet another little furor with his remarks about Justin Combs, son of rapper and entrepreneur Sean Combs (a.k.a. Diddy).

On his “O’Reilly Factor” show on Tuesday night, Bill reported the news that Combs the Younger had received a full-ride athletic scholarship to play football for UCLA. After complimenting the teen for his exceptional performance and for staying clean, he then took issue with Combs the Elder over the scholarship which, according to O’Reilly, was worth $54,000 a year to the Combs family.

“Diddy ... once the scholarship is granted ... and it goes in the records that the kid earned it, should’ve said, you know what, we’re not gonna take it,” O’Reilly told his guests Monica Crowley and Alan Colmes. “We’re gonna give it to another kid, because there only are a certain amount of scholarships, even though they’re corporate paid, they are limited, so they should’ve stepped back, paid their own way and let another kid have the scholarship.”

Both Crowley and Colmes disagreed with O’Reilly, who applauded Combs for his achievement and thought he had more than earned his scholarship.

But O’Reilly took the discussion into a political arena, by hitching Combs to Obama and bringing up class warfare.

“Diddy is one of the big class warfare guys,” O’Reilly said. “He’s a big Obama guy.”

Reaction on the Twitter-sphere was mostly disgusted with O’Reilly, but there were a few people who found themselves surprisingly in agreement with him.

As Fono Babes writes (with some explicit language), “Bill O’reilly just a hater, but either way Justin’s Pops is Diddy he can buy da ... school.”

Or H.Werk, who wrote, (also with some explicit language) “i agree with bill o reilly... aint that some ..., i cant stand bill o reilly, but P.Diddy should be paying for his damn son’s education.”

Diddy, who also tweeted about his other son graduating from junior high, has remained quiet on the issue of his son’s scholarship. For now.
