CBS on Thursday announced premiere dates for new and returning summer programs.

The network has two new original series debuting this summer. First up is “Braindead,” a comedic political thriller about brain-eating bugs wreaking havoc on Capitol Hill, which premieres June 13. It is created by Robert and Michelle King of “The Good Wife” and stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Danny Pino, Aaron Tveit and Tony Shalhoub.

It will be followed on June 22 by “American Gothic,” a mystery about a prominent Boston family tied to a string of murders. It stars Juliet Rylance, Justin Chatwin and Virginia Madsen and is produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television.

Last year’s summer offering “Zoo,” based on James Patterson’s best-selling novel about a wave of violent animal attacks against humans, will return for a second season on June 28.
