This post has been corrected. See note at the bottom for details.

The big “Doctor Who” 50th anniversary celebration will happen worldwide at the same time, but in case it comes at an inconvenient time, a second night has been added.

“Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor” will screen on TV and in select movie theaters Nov. 23. And now a second night has been added: Nov. 25. That’s in addition to the simultaneous worldwide airing on TV in more than 75 countries.

The theatrical screenings -- which will take place Nov. 23 in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Seattle, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta and Minneapolis and expand to 300 theaters nationwide Nov. 25 -- will feature the special “Doctor Who” adventure in RealD 3D, giving an added incentive to get off the couch and out of the house.

The anniversary hoopla, which commemorates the BBC creation as the longest running science fiction show on TV, is also a celebration of Matt Smith, whose tenure as the 11th Doctor will be coming to an end this year with the Christmas special a month after “Day of the Doctor.” He’ll be replaced by Peter Capaldi, best known from his work on the comedy series “The Thick of It.”

Additionally, the special, which stars current Doctor Smith, former Doctor David Tennant and companions Jenna Coleman and Billie Piper, along with John Hurt as a previously unknown iteration of the Doctor, will be preceded by specially shot introductions and followed by a 10-minute making-of short called “The Day of the Doctor: Behind the Lens.”

Tickets for the theatrical presentations go on sale Friday (Oct. 25) at 9 a.m. EST.

[For the record, 3:33 p.m. Oct. 24: A previous version of this post said the screenings would take place in 300 theaters in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Seattle, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta and Minneapolis. In fact, the Nov. 23 screenings will be in those cities only, and the Nov. 25 screenings will be in 300 theaters nationwide.]
