Fall TV ratings: NBC logs its best first month of season since 2007

NBC may not be revisiting its glory days of the 1990s, but there’s little doubt the network is on a ratings roll.

The network just wrapped up its best first month to the fall season since 2007, according to Nielsen. Through the week that ended Sunday, NBC has piled up the largest margin over its nearest rival in 11 years in the crucial adults aged 18 to 49 demographic.

Of course, much of that commanding performance was football-fueled. The most-watched program last week was NBC’s Sunday telecast of the Denver-Indianapolis game, which drew nearly 27 million.

But NBC as usual saw strong results from its singing smash “The Voice,” the Monday airing of which was the No. 2 non-sports program among young adults, exceeded only by CBS’ sitcom “The Big Bang Theory.”

New fall shows are continuing to search for an audience. The highest-rated in 18 to 49 was CBS’ sitcom “The Millers,” although its performance behind “Big Bang” has actually been lackluster. NBC’s crime drama “The Blacklist” is holding up fairly well with “The Voice” as a big Monday lead-in.

Fox, stuck in last place in viewers and the demo, logged only one show in the Top 10 of 18 to 49, its new period thriller “Sleepy Hollow.”

Basic cable was once again led by AMC’s zombie smash “The Walking Dead,” which was off its Season 4 premiere of more than 16 million but still gathered nearly 14 million.
