‘Fargo’ TV series gets its first full trailer

Fans of the Coen brothers’ Oscar-winning crime dramedy “Fargo” can finally get their first peek at what the new TV series will look like with the first full-length trailer, released Tuesday.

There’s a lot that looks familiar here: frozen vistas, unfortunate mustaches, dark crime and that ever-present upbeat “oooo yaaaa” exaggerated Minnesota accent.

But there’s a lot that’s different. The series, which stars Billy Bob Thornton, Martin Freeman, Kate Walsh, Colin Hanks, Adam Goldberg, Bob Odenkirk, Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key, among others, isn’t just an extended retelling of the Coens’ film.

Yes, there’s a put-upon Midwestern rube caught up with dark characters (Freeman taking the place of the film’s William H. Macy), and there’s the intrepid female cop, played by Allison Tolman (replacing Frances McDormand in the film). But they aren’t the same people from the film, and the story, involving a troublesome drifter played by Thornton, is not the same.

The Coens serve as executive producers of the series and were involved in the development, but the writing here is from Noah Hawley, who also created the ABC cop series “The Unusuals.”

The series is set to premiere on FX on April 15.
