Adaptation of ‘War of the Worlds’ reportedly in the works at MTV with ‘Teen Wolf’ creator

MTV is reportedly in talks with the team behind “Teen Wolf” to reboot “War of the Worlds” into a television series.

First reported by Deadline and confirmed by the L.A. Times, the network is looking to Jeff Davis and Andrew Cochran to adapt H.G. Wells’ landmark alien invasion story, which was first published in 1897 and spawned multiple adaptations, including a panic-inducing radio broadcast directed by Orson Wells in 1938 and most recently a 2005 film by Steven Spielberg starring Tom Cruise.

Itself an adaptation of a 1985 movie of the same name, “Teen Wolf” will complete its sixth and final season in 2017.

If a new take on “War of the Worlds” comes to TV, it will have company in various familiar titles from years gone by that have joined network schedules of late, including “Lethal Weapon” and “The Exorcist” on Fox, “Frequency” on the CW and HBO’s “Westworld.”
