Connie Britton of ‘Nashville’ on Globe nod, Kyle Chandler’s teasing

Connie Britton won’t deny that a Golden Globe nomination is a pretty stellar achievement. But you’ll forgive her if she’s still preoccupied with there being an album out in the world with her voice on it.

“It’s so crazy,” said Britton, who stars in ABC’s “Nashville” as fictional country superstar Rayna James. The show recently released a soundtrack featuring tunes from the TV drama. “I have to tell you, that is something I never ever thought would happen. It’s the season of cool news.”

Thursday morning she added “Golden Globe” nominee to her bio. Britton, already an Emmy nominee a few times over for her roles in “Friday Night Lights” and “American Horror Story,” was recognized in the lead actress in a drama category -- co-star Hayden Panettiere, who plays her nemesis on the show, received a nomination in the supporting actress category.

Britton got word of the news while watching videos on her iPhone with her 22-month-old son.

“We were watching videos of him and his little girlfriend and all of a sudden, on top of the screen, popped up an email from my manager. My honey let me check it.”

Despite her newfound singing chops, Britton didn’t break into song upon learning the news. That’s not to say she’s not enjoying the gig.

“I just thought it was a great opportunity to play a very complex powerful woman. And the country music world just seemed like such a fun and exciting world to step into. It’s been a blast.”

And she’s got an old friend keeping tabs on the gig. Kyle Chandler, who played her character’s husband on “Friday Night Lights” (and helped make the Taylors one of the most beloved couples on TV) hasn’t kept mum since they went on to separate projects.

“He is hilarious,” she said. “He calls me weekly after the show airs because he just loves to tease me mercilessly. He called me this morning with high congratulations. He’s such a dear.”

But what about the new man in her fictional life, the plaid-wearing, gutter-cleaning, swoon-worthy crooner Deacon Claybourne (played by Charles Esten):

“He’s everything we all want from a man, right?” she said. “And that’s coming from someone who got to be with Kyle Chandler for five seasons.”
