‘Monday Night Raw’ recap: Charlie Sheen is money in the bank

Share

Well, as if WWE couldn’t get wacky enough, on this week’s episode of “Monday Night Raw,” it was announced that Charlie Sheen, yes, that Charlie Sheen, will be the WWE’s social media ambassador during the 1,000th episode of Raw on July 23. What does that mean? I’m glad you asked.

Sheen will tweet during the July 23 Raw, providing up-to-the-minute commentary on the night’s action to his 7.5 million Twitter followers. The WWE will try to add some new fans to their show by taking advantage of the more than 12 million fans Sheen has on the social media platforms Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram. WWE and Sheen fans will be able to ask the actor questions during the broadcast via Twitter using the #SheenGetsRaw hashtag.

As for the rest of the show on Monday, it was basically a continuation of ongoing story lines. The CM Punk-Daniel Bryan-Kane-AJ quadrangle continued. AJ plays her role perfectly, and is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters on the show. However, there is one problem with this entire angle: Punk, Bryan and Kane all come across as complete idiots who are being manipulated by AJ. That work OK with the Bryan and Kane characters, but there is no way the CM Punk should be manipulated by anyone. It makes him look foolish, and Punk is someone who should be making others feel foolish.

If it were me, I’d put AJ with Bryan, and do a play off of the old Randy Savage-Miss Elizabeth story lines, except make AJ the master manipulator instead of the naive innocent that Miss Elizabeth was. They started down that road a couple of months ago, before dropping it abruptly to go with the current story line. Go back to it, WWE. In a year, have Bryan turn on AJ and you have a mega babyface on your hands.

Also Monday was the welcome return (after a month off) of Chris Jericho, who will be one of the competitors in the “Money in the Bank” pay-per-view in three weeks. There has still been real no growth in the Jericho character in recent months. It will be interesting to see what tricks he has up his sleeve now.
