‘Scream Queens’ recap: Speak of the Red Devil

Share

Things got a little bit spooky last night, didn’t they, pledges? Aside from all those wonderful (and somewhat odd) ghost stories, the body count rose significantly in this week’s episode of “Scream Queens” as the deaths of two main characters -- and that of a minor one -- shook Wallace University’s campus.

Picking up where last week’s cliffhanger ended, Boone (Nick Jonas) is back and is walking around campus in a Joaquin Phoenix disguise. Because, why not? However, when his disguise -- a poorly secured beard and mustache -- falls off, Chanel No. 3 (Billie Lourd) recognizes him immediately and assumes that he is a ghost coming back to haunt Kappa.

Distraught from seeing a ghost, Chanel No. 3 runs straight back to the house to inform her fellow Chanels of her recent discovery. Like any sane person, Denise Hemphill (Niecy Nash) -- who is now going by Mama Denise -- gathers the girls around the fireplace for some ghost stories. Fight fire with fire, right? After three stories -- most of which for some reason include characters being murdered on the toilet -- the Chanels are thoroughly terrified, except for Hester (Lea Michele), who is truly enjoying these gory tales.

The stories, however, quickly turn into nightmares when they are acted out in real life as Denise is almost killed by the Red Devil while in the bathroom. Luckily, she is able to fight off her attacker.

While the Chanels and Denise are busy with ghost stories, Zayday (Keke Palmer) is visited by a thought-to-be-dead Boone, who tries to seduce her. Zayday, who doesn’t believe in ghosts, sees right through Boone’s facade, and she, along with Grace (Skyler Samuels), accuse him of faking his death and being one of the Red Devils -- I mean, they are right.

The two girls try to grab Boone, but when he backs away from them, he ends up falling out the window. Don’t fret, though. Boone isn’t dead as minutes later he attacks and kills his fellow Dickie Dollar Scholar Earl Grey (Lucien Laviscount), who is on his way to visit Zayday.

Hearing of another death on the Kappa House property, Chanel No. 5 (Abigail Breslin) hightails it out of the place only to find herself in a situation similar to a ghost story Hester told. The Red Devil is hiding in back of her car but luckily the truck driver behind her keeps honking and blinking his high beams, keeping the killer at bay until they hit the gas station. Once Chanel No. 5 and the truck driver exit their vehicles, the Red Devil strikes, killing the truck driver and forcing Chanel No. 5 to head back to campus.

Back at the Kappa House, drama is in full force as Hester lies to Chanel (Emma Roberts) and Chad Radwell (Glenn Powell) about being pregnant with his child. Chad feels forced to not only bring Hester -- instead of Chanel -- to meet his parents at their Hamptons house for Thanksgiving, but to marry her.

A furious Chanel figures that Hester’s confession is a lie and forces the truth out of the girl. However, when she realizes that Hester will not tell Chad the truth, she pushes the girl down the Kappa House stairs, killing her when Hester’s neck snaps. Looks like the Chanels have yet another secret to keep -- and another body to dispose of.

Elsewhere, in a lavish hotel suite, Boone regroups with the other Red Devil -- whose identity is still unknown, though we do know that she and Boone are the bathtub twins -- to kill Gigi (Nasim Pedrad). However, Boone’s plans to kill Gigi are thwarted by his sister when she stabs and kills him instead of her.

So what did you think of the episode? Do you think Hester is really dead? Who do you think Boone’s sister is? Sound off in the comments and check back for what fresh hell next week’s episode brings!
