Steven Spielberg’s ‘Red Band Society’ gets series order from Fox

“Red Band Society,” a drama set in the pediatric wing of a hospital and produced by Steven Spielberg, has been picked up for a series order by Fox.

The series is about a diverse group of high school teens who become unlikely allies and friends. “This is one of the most ambitious and unorthodox shows in anyone’s development this year,” said the Fox announcement. “It represents a completely inspired way into young soap, a comedic one-hour, a hospital show and a (surrogate) family drama.”

The stars of the series are Oscar winner Octavia Spencer (“The Help”), Dave Annable and Charlie Rowe.

Other producers besides Spielberg include Margaret Nagle (“Boardwalk Empire”), who wrote the pilot, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank and Sergio Aguero. Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (“Glee”) is the director.
