BET will blow the whistle on its sports-flavored comedy “The Game” after its ninth season.

“All good things must come to an end,” said a statement from the network, adding that the series had just started production on its eighth and ninth seasons.

“The Game,” about the women involved with the players on a fictional San Diego football team called the Sabers, had been resurrected by BET in 2011 after being canceled on the CW. The series was first launched on the CW in 2006.

“With season 8 and 9, we’re excited to end on a high note by giving Sabers fans a chance to say farewell to their favorite players on and off the field,” said the BET statement.
