‘The Walking Dead’ adds a mobile game to its horde

“The Walking Dead” began its (after)life as a comic and now it’s a blockbuster TV series, a few novels, a host of ancillary merchandise, one well-received video game (the episodic “Walking Dead” adventure game) and one poorly received video game (“The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct”). Now it’s adding a mobile game to the mix.

AMC has recruited the Finnish game maker Next Games to create a new “Walking Dead” game specifically for mobile devices.

The cable outlet and game makers are playing things close to the vest, since the game isn’t going to debut until “The Walking Dead” Season 5 arrives in the fall, but they sure are making it sound exciting.

“I can confidently state it’s unlike anything we’ve seen from ‘The Walking Dead’ franchise on home or mobile gaming hardware before,” Next Games CEO Teemu Huuhtanen said in a statement.

The company was formed in 2013 in Helsinki by veterans from other game makers, including Disney and Supercell. The “Walking Dead” game is their first major announced project.

“The Walking Dead: Season One” from Telltale Games broke the adventure town into episodes similar to the TV series. It has been a huge hit, with more than 90 Game of the Year awards from 2012. Two episodes of the game’s “second season” have now been released.
