Saving the world? All in a day's work for "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." in this spin-off of Joss Whedon's 2012 blockbuster "The Avengers." 8 p.m. ABC

"Nick News With Linda Ellerbee" interviews seriously stressed-out kids for "Worried Sick: Living With Anxiety." 8 p.m. Nickelodeon

Wendy McLendon-Covey and Jeff Garlin — but not Gertrude Berg — star in the new 1980s-set sitcom "The Goldbergs." 9 p.m. ABC

Third time's a charm? Bradley Whitford nabs a "Trophy Wife" in the slinky form of Malin Akerman in this new sitcom. 9 p.m. ABC

"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" and their respective colons are back with new episodes. 9 p.m. NBC; 10 p.m. CBS

Yee-to-the-haw, y'all! "Nashville" returns for another season. 10 p.m. ABC

Remains to be seen: A scientist unearths something unexpected in the special "Skeletons of the Sahara." 10 p.m. KOCE

"South Park" is back for its 17th (!) season. 10 p.m. Comedy Central

THURSDAY

More season premieres: "The Big Bang Theory" and "Parks and Recreation." 8 p.m. CBS; 8 p.m. NBC

Michael J. Fox — not Eric Stoltz — stars in "The Michael J. Fox Show." And Mork meets Buffy in the Robin Williams-Sarah Michelle Gellar sitcom "The Crazy Ones." 9 p.m. NBC; 9 p.m. CBS

"Grey's Anatomy," "Parenthood" and "Elementary" also return. 9 p.m. ABC; 10 p.m. NBC; 10 p.m. CBS

It's fab times four when the kids perform songs by the Beatles on the season premiere of "Glee." 9 p.m. Fox

Amber Tamblyn joins the cast of "Two and a Half Men." Which only makes us miss "Joan of Arcadia" that much more. 9:30 p.m. CBS

FRIDAY

Kids takeover the kitchen in Gordon Ramsay's "MasterChef Junior." We'll have a PB&J with the crusts cut off, please. 8 p.m. Fox

"Hawaii Five-0" and "Blue Bloods" are also back with new episodes. 9 and 10 p.m. CBS

"Roman Polanski: Odd Man Out" revisits the 1970s-era sexual assault case that continues to dog the Oscar-winning filmmaker. 9 and 11:30 p.m. Showtime

SATURDAY

Four teenage girls enter into "The Cheating Pact," which doesn't end well for one of them, in this new thriller. 8 p.m. Lifetime

Daniel Day-Lewis nabbed his third Oscar and probably ought to have his face etched on a penny for his turn as "Lincoln" in Steven Spielberg's 2012 historical drama. 8 p.m. Showtime

Tina Fey is back at 30 Rock — but not with "30 Rock" — as host of the season premiere of "Saturday Night Live." 11:29 p.m. NBC
