“Teen Choice 2010” embodies the generation weaned on the notion that everyone is a winner.

Granted, many of those who make it into one of the 106 (yes, really) categories are indeed winners. Singer Katy Perry hosts the two-hour awards fest, airing Monday, Aug. 9, on Fox, which features 32 separate categories just for movies. The 25 TV categories include Choice TV: Male Reality/Variety Star, with Paul “DJ Pauly D” DelVecchio, Michael “The Situation” Sorrentino ( “Jersey Shore” and Brody Jenner ( “The Hills”) up against Bret Michaels (“The Celebrity Apprentice”) and Lee DeWyze ( “American Idol”).

“It’s the first thing I have been nominated for outside of ‘Idol,’ ” DeWyze says. “It’s cool to be involved in, and nominated.”

No stranger to the importance of fans voting, he adds, “I want to thank anyone who has voted for me and tell the fans I appreciate your support, and hopefully I will win this thing.”

Some were a little surprised by their nominations. Leonardo DiCaprio is up for Choice Activist (against Jessica Simpson, among others) and Choice Movie Actor: Horror/Thriller.

“I’m very honored, but for what movie?” DiCaprio asks, pausing. “For ‘Shutter Island?’ Really? Well, I am excited that a teenage audience would nominate me for that. It’s not your typical teen film. That’s a hard-core film in a lot of ways, really tough subject matter. So to have them nominate me for that is an honor.”

The CW’s “The Vampire Diaries” picked up eight nominations, and Ian Somerhalder, up for Choice TV Villain, says, “The response that the show has been getting, we are extremely flattered and a little nervous that we have to do what we did last season even better. So we appreciate all the support and truly wouldn’t have it without the viewership and fan base.”

Eight-time Olympic medalist Apolo Anton Ohno will also be there.

“I’m not going to shy away from it,” Ohno says. “If I am nominated for an award, it’s always an honor.”
