Book Signing Overview

The Festival committee plans more than 100 panel discussions and readings, featuring nearly 450 authors. All Festival of Books authors are asked to remain after their event(s) for at least one hour to sign copies of their books at official festival book-signing areas. The books of each festival author signing in the Los Angeles Times signing areas are available for sale at the signing areas, and you may purchase these books while in line to get your books signed.

Most authors and moderators are available to sign their books following their panels. The Los Angeles Times has designated three festival book-signing areas to accommodate orderly and efficient author signings. The three festival book-signing areas are North, South and West. There is also an author signing areas located at the Target Children's Stage Area, the Los Angeles Times Stage area, and at the Borders Books booth.

Signing Area Procedure

Each signing area is setup in basically the same way. Book sales booths are in the front and author signing booths are behind the sales booths.

Festival guests line up to wait for their favorite author. There is a booth in the signing area designated for each author panel room (i.e. if you are coming from a panel in Dodd you will go to the booth in the signing area marked Dodd.) An additional sign on that booth will indicate the names of the authors from each panel who are signing their books. While in line, festival guests may purchase the author's book(s) from the "Special Seller." The Special Seller has the author's books available for sale.

A sign showing the author's name is placed on the outside of each Author Signing Booth. Festival guests meet one by one with the author for autographs. Each festival guest may have up to three books signed by the author. There is no charge for the autographs. Most authors sign autographs for up to one hour.
