Working media must register in advance, by April 21, for the 2009 festival. A media application form is available to download by clicking here. There is no walk-up, day of registration.
Media registration forms must be submitted by the close of business April 23, 2001. There will be no walk-up media registration.
Previous accreditation does not guarantee the issuance of media credentials for any future Los Angeles Times special event.
Newspapers, wire services and business or trade publications
Business card with company logo and editorial title from an established, recognized
news organization AND either a current masthead that includes the holder's
name and title OR two bylined articles published within the last six months.
Acceptable photo identification must be presented at the on-site Media Check-in
desk.
Television/radio reporters, producers and crews
Business card with official station/outlet logo and title that represents
one of these positions. Acceptable photo identification must be presented.
Newsletters/association publications
Reporters from newsletters and association publications must provide
both a business card with the editorial title AND either two samples
of bylined articles published within the last six months OR a current
masthead including holder's name and title. Acceptable photo identification
must be presented.
Contributing editors/reporters
Contributing journalists must present a current, original letter
of assignment. Acceptable photo identification must be presented.
Freelance writers/reporters/authors
All freelancers must be on assignment. Freelancers must present a
current, original letter of assignment or copy of contract from publisher
or news organization AND two samples of bylined articles published within
the last six months. Those who are not currently under contract are not
eligible for media credentials. Acceptable photo identification must
be presented.
Online publications/online news services
Reporters and editors from online publications and online news services
must provide a business card AND two bylined articles (printed copy)
with name/title appearing in an editorial capacity. The Web site URL
must be provided and must contain relevant editorial content. Personal
Web sites are not acceptable. Acceptable photo identification must be
presented.
Photographers
All photographers must be on assignment. Photographers must present
a current, original letter of assignment or a copy of their contract
with a publisher or news organization. Photographers not currently under
contract are not eligible for media credentials. Acceptable photo identification
must be presented.
University/college media
University/college publication reporters must provide at least two bylined
articles published within the last six months and an original letter of assignment.
Credentials will be limited to two per university news organization. Student
reporters must show a valid student identification card.
University journalism students
Students must present an original letter of assignment from their
journalism professor certifying they are covering the festival as part
of an official class assignment. Students must present a valid student
identification card.

News media requiring additional information about the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books or Los Angeles Times Book Prizes should e-mail FOBmedia@therosegrp.com.
All registered media representatives must present themselves in person at Media Check-in
the Los Angeles Times Spring Street Lobby during the 2 days prior to the event in order to
obtain a media credential, which will be required for admission to any author/panel session.
The Media Room will be located in the Faculty Center on campus, near the corner of Hilgard and Westholme avenues.

Media are not allowed into the Authors' Green Room.
Attempted use of expired Los Angeles Times Festival of Books media credentials to gain admission to author/panel sessions will result in their confiscation.
Los Angeles Times Festival of Books media credentials are not valid for admission to the Los Angeles Times Book Prize awards ceremony.
All seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis. An early arrival to panel sessions is recommended.

Reporters are strongly encouraged to arrange author interviews prior to the Festival. Interviews are subject to author availability.
Requests for On-site Interviews
Requests for on-site author interviews must be made in advance of the festival
to the appropriate publicist. Interviews are subject to author availability.
It may not be possible to schedule interviews during the event. Interviews are subject to author availability.
Cable television outlets interested in broadcasting from or establishing a stationary set on-site should submit their requests at least two months in advance of the event. Radio outlets may request the use of an interview room in the Faculty Center. There are a limited number of rooms, which will be made available on a first-come basis.

Short-term videotaping (news purposes) of speakers or panel sessions is limited to credentialed media. Other videotaping may be allowed at the discretion of the speaker(s). Contact festival media relations staff at least two weeks in advance of the event.
