Reading by 9 holds several book drives throughout the year, including two long-standing book drives, the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books in the spring and the Reading by 9 Holiday Book Drive in the fall. Scholastic Inc., one of the nation's largest publishers of children's books, donates 200,000 annually. With the assistance of the county offices of education, the books are distributed to kindergarten through third grade classrooms in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura Counties.

Major Book Drives:

Attendees at the Festival of Books are encouraged to bring a new or gently-used book and donate it to Reading by 9, or to buy a new book at the Festival to contribute.
