Special reprint of Learning Links that appeared in the Los Angeles Times in 2002 and 2003

It is my pleasure to welcome you to this collection of California Classroom Learning Links published in a very special place in the newspaper called the Kids' Reading Room. These short stories and activities teach you interesting things, then point you (and your parents and teachers) to places in the community where you can learn more. Look for new Learning Links on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in the Comics Plus section of the Los Angeles Times.

Here are some of the other fun things to do when you visit the Kids' Reading Room.

On Sundays, follow along as the main story is read aloud by calling 1-800 LATIMES, Ext. 4KIDS. And don't miss the five-part story that starts on Monday and concludes on Friday. Read each day's chapter and see if you can guess how it ends.

But that's not all! Every day, the Kids' Reading Room gives you a chance to get published in the newspaper. You can write book reviews, stories and poems, draw pictures, send in jokes and riddles and answer monthly questions. Every year, over 1300 children see their names on the page. If you would like to try and be one of them, send your submissions to: Kids' Reading Room, Los Angeles Times, 202 W. 1st St., Los Angeles, CA 90012; or fax to (213) 237-0732 or e-mail kidsreadingroom@latimes.com. Include your full name, age, school and city in which your school is located. Be sure to check the Room to see if they appear.

I hope you enjoy this visit with the Kids' Reading Room. Come back soon!

Sincerely,
Mary Ellen Walker
Editor, Kids' Reading Room
