Book Donations
The Reading by 9 book donation program is built with book drives with our community partners and corporate sponsors. Since the first book drive in 1999, more than 4.8 million new and gently used books have been donated to public elementary schools in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura Counties.

Highlights:
  • In 2007, a new partner, Gadish Properties, participated in Reading by 9’s annual Holiday Book Drive. In 2006, 500,000 new and gently used books were donated by Rotary Clubs in Southern California and the public during the Holiday Book Drive, Festival of Books, L.A.’s Largest Mixer, Los Angeles Dodgers Book Drive, Orange County Fair, Orange County’s Largest Mixer and other community events, including 200,000 new books from Scholastic Inc.
  • In 2007, 552,871 new and gently used books were donated by Rotary Clubs in Southern California and the public during the Holiday Book Drive, Festival of Books, L.A.’s Largest Mixer, Orange County Fair, Borders Books and Music and other community events, including 200,000 new books from Scholastic Inc.
  • All donated books were sorted and disseminated by the respective Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and Ventura county offices of education and the Inland Empire Reading Council in Riverside County.
