Performing Books
Performing Books is a four-event series featuring professional storytellers and performing artists who bring stories to life through song, dance, voice and instruments. All performances listed below are presented at the Mark Taper Auditorium at the Richard J. Riordan Central Library. Check later this year for the 2008 schedule.
Love Ride, October 26, 2008
The Love Ride is the largest one-day motorcycle event in the world. Held in October in Glendale and the Fairplex in Pomona, it is a fundraiser for several community organizations, including Reading by 9. The 2008 Love Ride will be held on October 26, 2008. Holiday Book Drive, October & November, 2008
Reading by 9 sponsors a book drive each October and November in partnership with Rotary International, Gadish Properties, Goodwill Industries of Southern California, The Salvation Army, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Council of Los Angeles, BookEnds, Love Ride Foundation, Skirball Cultural Center, Center Theatre Group, Executive Women International, Los Angeles Community College District, . Donations of kindergarten through third-grade books, both new and gently used, are accepted at any Goodwill and Salvation Army locations during the two-month period. Scholastic Inc. donates 200,000 new books annually. In 2007, the Holiday Book Drive garnered 552,871 new and gently-used books, which were donated to schools in Reading by 9's five-county target area in April/May 2008.
