I am a Language-Speech Specialist and work
with Pre-K through 8th Grade students. I also work in a district
with a high number of Hispanics. Many of the parents speak only
English. When I saw the Guide in my local Los Angeles Times, I
immediately thought that it would be a great resource for the parents
of my students. I especially liked that it was in both English
and Spanish.I look forward to more Parent Guides similar to this
one. Many parents are interested in helping their children at home
but do not know what they can do. I especially liked the parent
tips incorporating tips into the everyday events (going to the
grocery store, things to do in the car).

I receive the Los Angeles Times at my home, and was really excited
when I found the Parent Reading Guide inside. I took it to school
and showed the librarian. She was also excited and went online
to learn more.I teach children with learning disabilities and one
of their major problems is reading. Some of their parents speak
only Spanish, so I was excited that this Guide was in Spanish also.
I will share with families at our Open House. Those who do not
attend, I will send a copy home with the student.Thank you, Los
Angeles Times, Albertsons, Sav-on Drugs and Love Ride for making
the Guide available to those to need it!
