In the hit A&E series “Criss Angel Mindfreak,” the titular illusionist wandered the streets of Las Vegas, performing seemingly impossible feats like walking on water and hovering in midair. Angel’s new performance space is a custom-built stage on the Strip, home to “Criss Angel Believe,” a collaboration between the artist and Cirque du Soleil. The show’s title recalls Harry Houdini’s famous dying words to his wife, that those who would claim to speak with the great escapologist in the afterlife would be known because they uttered the code word, “believe.” In the show, Angel is the centerpiece of a surreal Victorian allegory, a highly stylized showcase for his mind-bending illusions. “The live show experience [is] unlike anything that anybody’s ever seen before,“ said Angel.
