Band of Outsiders launches 10th anniversary capsule collection

Share

Band of Outsiders is marking its 10th anniversary with a capsule collection that includes both re-issued favorite men’s and women’s pieces from the brand’s archives as well as a handful of new unisex pieces that include nods to the milestone of hitting the first double-digit year.

On the men’s side, returning classics include a black wool tuxedo and a navy blue schoolboy jacket. The women’s anniversary re-issues include favorites like a navy blue melton wool peacoat, black tuxedo jumpsuit and a blue oxford shirtdress that is perhaps the quintessential Band of Outsiders take on womenswear.

For the new pieces, founder and creative director Scott Sternberg has added a simple “10 tally marks” embroidery (two sets of four vertical lines each crossed through with a diagonal line) across the front of Breton stripe long- and shortsleeve T-shirts and at the bottom of oxford cloth shirts.

In a nod to the Band brand’s roots as a neckwear line, Sternberg and company have also curated a 10-tie box (some past bestsellers, some new) that includes paisleys, a range of diagonal stripe patterns and a crisp red-and-blue horizontal stripe.

Our favorite (though it’s hard to see the image clearly in the above photo) is a simple white cotton T-shirt screen-printed with the image of a Polaroid photo of a 10 Freeway sign -- which managed to reference not only the label’s SoCal roots and its 10th anniversary but also Sternberg’s love of the Polaroid camera medium (for years he’s shot his lookbook and advertising campaign imagery using a Polaroid camera).

At a celebratory Silver Lake dinner hosted by longtime stockist Barneys New York earlier this week, we asked Sternberg where, exactly, he took the photo that appears on the shirt.

“It was harder than you’d think,” he told us. “I was getting on and off at every exit along the 10 looking for the right sign and finally found that one somewhere around Lincoln [Boulevard].”

Barneys is one of the two retailers carrying the anniversary wares (in store and online), the other is Opening Ceremony’s New York boutique -- which is also hosting a BOO pop-up shop through the end of November. The goods are also available via the openingceremony.us website and Band of Outsiders’ brick and mortar stores in New York City and Tokyo.

Prices for the new pieces in the capsule collection range from $185 (for the Polaroid T-shirt) to $795 (for the box set of ties).
