Kickstarter campaign for U.S.-made blue laces funds in 10 hours

It looks as if the blue shoelace gained some serious traction in the bid to become a symbolic yellow ribbon of support of American manufacturing on Tuesday, with a 30-day Kickstarter campaign fully funded in less than half a day.

The Bluelace Project, the brainchild of Flint and Tinder founder and chief executive Jake Bronstein, went live on Kickstarter at 10:08 a.m. EST Tuesday and needed to raise $25,000 by Dec. 19 to fund the manufacture of a run of blue-hued, 51-inch-long, high-density, triple-braided, waxed cotton shoelaces with stamped aluminum bullet tips -- made right here in the good old U. S. of A. by Porstmouth, Ohio, based Sole Choice Inc.

That pledge goal was met handily -- hitting $25.056 at 8:13 p.m. EST, just 10 hours and five minutes after launching.

But selling high-quality, made-in-America shoelaces were just part of the draw. Bronstein’s larger goal is to establish his blue laces as a widely recognizable, wearable symbol in support of American manufacturing -- akin to the pink ribbon of breast cancer support or the yellow ribbon that famously came to symbolize support for U.S. troops.

Based on the impressive speed at which the necessary funds were raised, it looks as if the blue laces are off to the races and well on their way to doing just that.
