The Duchess of Cambridge has been changing things up a bit recently, but jaws dropped in some quarters when she attended the British premiere of the film “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom” on Thursday. It wasn’t the elegant Rouland Mouret gown she was wearing that caused double takes. It was the messy casual ponytail. [Cut]

In a sad coincidence, it was during the screening that the Duchess and her husband Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, received word that South African anti-apartheid hero Nelson Mandela, the subject of the film, had passed away. [Express]

The upcoming film “American Hustle” will give viewers a chance to revel in ‘70s designer fashion from the likes of Halston and Gucci, thanks to costume designer Michael Wilkinson. [WWD]
