Fashion-focused L.A. fundraiser planned to aid Philippines

Share

Fashion and fun for a cause are on tap Friday at a fundraiser planned to help victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

The typhoon tore through six Philippine islands in November, leaving almost 6,000 people dead, more than 1,700 missing and millions of dollars in damage.

Now a group called Los Angeles Loves the Philippine Islands (or LAheartspi, for short) is planning a fashion-focused fundraiser to benefit Doctors Without Borders and those affected by the typhoon.

The event will include raffle prizes and a silent auction featuring bags, accessories, beauty services and shopping experiences.

Auction selections were curated by Cameron Silver, co-owner of Decades luxury vintage boutique and co-star of Bravo’s “Dukes of Melrose” reality series; Marcy Medina, WWD’s West Coast bureau chief; and Melissa Magsaysay, a Los Angeles Times freelance contributor who is a stylist, creative consultant and author of the book “City of Style” about Los Angeles’ fashion history.

The trio has pulled together items from luxury fashion brands including Gucci, Armani, Stella McCartney, Marc Jacobs, Brooks Bros., Burberry, Max Mara, Ferragamo, Perrin Paris, Coach, Tod’s and Dior as well as luxury shopping packages from Neiman Marcus, Theory, the Real Real and Rent the Runway.

DJ Michelle Pesce is scheduled to provide music and there will be refreshments from a variety of vendors.

The event is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday at Riviera 31, 8555 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles. Tickets may be reserved with a minimum $25 donation at ryot.org/laheartspi. Additional tickets will be available at the door.

Los Angeles Loves the Philippine Islands was formed in response to the typhoon by a group of Angelenos active in the arts, fashion and media. Besides Silver, Medina and Magsaysay, the host committee includes Chad Hugo, Janice Nickloff, Jen Betts, Joi Salvador, Kana Manglapus, Leah Jacobson, Melissa Ladines, Michelle Ravelo, MyVice Sweats, Rembrandt Flores and RJ Rousso.
