The Los Angeles Fashion Council’s upcoming runway shows will be staged at the Grove shopping center, LAFC director Kelsi Smith announced Tuesday.

The two-day schedule of eight shows is slated for Oct. 9 and 10 in the Grove’s park area (the area adjacent to the dancing fountains where the Christmas tree traditionally goes each holiday season). Although the showcase of designers’ spring and summer 2014 collections will remain exclusive to invited guests only (traditionally industry press and buyers), Smith says the venue will allow the collections added exposure since the public will be able to sneak a peek from outside the park area.

The full roster of participating designers has yet to be announced, but one of the labels on the docket is expected to be the winner of the group’s Open Runway competition, which will be chosen after a final Sept. 28 walk-off.

The announcement of a new LAFC venue (last season the shows were held in a downtown L.A. storefront, and the debut slate of shows was staged at Carondelet House in the MacArthur Park neighborhood) follows the Aug. 2 announcement that a newly minted Men’s Fashion Week Los Angeles had partnered with downtown’s California Market Center to stage runway shows there Oct. 15 and 16.
