Paris-based designer Isabel Marant celebrated the one-year anniversary of her Melrose Place boutique in Los Angeles on Thursday night by hosting a barbecue with a rock-the-kasbah vibe.

Milla Jovovich cohosted the event with Marant, and they were joined by a crowd so enthusiastic, the glass lanterns hung in the trees were being knocked to the ground as people jockeyed for space between the succulents and Turkish throw rugs.

Guests included Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Alessandra Ambrosio, Liberty Ross, Joy Bryant, Kate Walsh, Gia Coppola, Beck, Dakota Johnson, Emily Browning, Julie Delpy, Juno Temple and many more.

Champagne was served along with mini-fish tacos, pigs in blankets and sliders, and at about 8:30 p.m., the L.A. band Warpaint took the stage.

“I had three of my best girlfriends with me, so it was almost like a birthday party for me,” Marant said Friday morning at the Chateau Marmont, still trying to recover her voice after the evening’s festivities. She was already wearing the baby-pink quilted denim shorts, black ruffled jacket and Birkenstock-like sandals with bow details from her “tough-but-sweet” spring 2014 runway collection shown earlier this month at Paris Fashion Week.

Thursday’s party was the work of runway show and party producer extraordinaire Alexandre de Betak of Bureau Betak, whom Marant has known, and partied with, since she was 16. So when it came to planning, she only had to say a couple of phrases -- “Remember that place we went that time?” and “Very French” -- and Betak ran with it.

While she is in L.A. for the weekend, Marant hopes to have time to hit some of her favorite shops, including Mister Freedom. Then she heads back home to Paris for another bash, this one to launch her hotly anticipated collection for H&M.

Filled with must-have pieces inspired by her own wardrobe (her favorites are a fringey coat and a black-and-white loop-knit sweater that’s a cheap chic alternative to fur), the collection launches worldwide on Nov. 14.
