A dearth of black models on fashion runways has grown so pronounced that in 2008 Vogue ran an article headlined “Is Fashion Racist?” Since then there have been panel discussions, calls for greater diversity and other industry soul searching, but no real change, Eric Wilson points out in the New York Times. Now, starting at New York Fashion Week in September, former model and agent Bethann Hardison plans to start a social media campaign to call out specific designers who don’t use black models.
