Lilly Pulitzer for Target will brighten your looks and your home

Target released the look book for its forthcoming Lilly Pulitzer capsule collection on Thursday morning, and all I can say is wow! Once again wow!

Maybe it’s just me, a Southern Californian who grew up in Florida, where Lilly Pulitzer began designing colorful shift dresses in the 1950s in Palm Beach. But I think anyone in the rest of the nation who survived the winter of 2014-2015 -- special shoutout to my Boston friends -- will find the light, tropical vibe of the Target collection a refreshing spirit-booster.

(Back in the day, Pulitzer’s elite clients certainly did. They included Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy, Vanderbilts, Rockefellers and Whitneys.)

The Lilly Pulitzer for Target Collection is made up of 250 items, including resort-inspired clothing, jewelry and accessories for women and girls; beauty must-haves such as lipsticks, nail polishes, hair ties and pins; beach towels, bar sets, chairs, candle holders and other housewares. Prices range from $2 to $150, including more than 200 items under $30. (See a sampling of the look book items in the photo gallery above.)

The collection is to be available starting April 19. But I’m already envisioning myself wearing a jungle floral Nosy Posie sundress ($34) with a starfish cuff ($20) and gold starfish sandals ($30), pouring cocktails into gold-rimmed glasses ($30, set of four), then settling into a teak Boom Boom chair ($60) under a matching umbrella ($100, plus $50 for cast iron base) -- perhaps with a swish of Dancing Rose lipstick ($8.99) to finish the look.

Gosh, I haven’t felt this enthusiastic about a designer-retailer high-low collaboration in a long time. Then again, it’s been a long winter.
