L’Wren Scott may have planned to close her fashion line
Fashion designer L’Wren Scott, who was found lifeless in her New York City apartment on Monday, may have planned to announce she was shuttering her fashion line on Wednesday.
Former New York Times Fashion Critic Cathy Horyn, writing a remembrance of Scott, said she had learned that Scott was planning to close the business, and that friends who saw the designer on Sunday were concerned about her but didn’t think she’d do something “desperate.”

Scott’s assistant reportedly found the designer kneeling and hanged from a scarf wrapped around a doorknob. Police said Monday that they didn’t find any evidence of foul play but an official cause of death was pending a coroner’s investigation.
Other sources told WWD that Scott had “alluded to brushes with depression” that had intensified early this year when she canceled her showing at New York Fashion Week in Feburary.
Meanwhile, Scott’s longtime boyfriend, the Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger, posted a statement on his website, mickjagger.com, saying:
“I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way.
“We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves.
“She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me.
“I have been touched by the tributes that people have paid to her, and also the personal messages of support that I have received.
“I will never forget her.”
Jagger’s statement came after the Rolling Stones postponed seven of their planned “14 On Fire” tour dates in Australia and New Zealand, Pop & Hiss reported.
Model Georgia Mae Jagger, daughter of Jagger and model Jerry Hall, pulled out of Australia Fashion Week to go to New York in the aftermath of Scott’s death, the Daily Mail reported.
Scott, a former model, was known for her attention to detail and for dressing actresses such as Nicole Kidman, Christina Hendricks, Penelope Cruz and Sarah Jessica Parker. Her women’s collections sold at a variety of retailers, including Barneys New York and independent boutiques, and a capsule collection she did for Banana Republic was one of the coveted offerings of last year’s holiday season.
