Mary Katrantzou’s A to Z bags hit L.A.

The British fashion invasion continues.

Designer Mary Katrantzou is in town this week for several events, beginning with the launch of her A to Z totes, which are being sold exclusively on MatchesFashion.com.

Katrantzou is one of several London-based designers hosting trunk shows, parties and stylist meetings in L.A. this month to court clients in stores and celebs for the red carpet.

On Monday night, the designer, along with London-based boutique and e-tailer Matches, hosted a stylish crowd at the Kayne Griffin Corcoran gallery for cocktails and a light supper by Sqirl’s Jessica Koslow.

The event was a celebration of Katrantzou’s latest project, a collection of tote bags for every letter of the alphabet featuring different versions of the designer’s signature prints surrounding each one.

Actresses Kiernan Shipka, Gillian Jacobs, Michelle Monaghan and Liberty Ross, handbag designer Clare Vivier, home accessories designer Heather Taylor, shoe designers Erica Pelosini and Louis Leeman, vintage guru Cameron Silver, and stylists Elizabeth Stewart, Edward Enninful and Magda Berliner were among those who came to sip punch and snap photos of the colorful totes at the soiree.

“Her patterns are unlike anything else out there now,” Shipka said of Katrantzou’s clothes, which she has worn on several occasions on the red carpet.

“We did a resort collection with prints based on letters of the alphabet,” Katrantzou said of the inspiration for the totes, adding that only 20 of each letter bag were made. “It’s nice to have something that feels exclusive. But if you’re any letter but X, Y or Z, you better move fast.”
