Thakoon Panichgul tapped into this runway season’s enthusiasm for all things eclectic with his spring collection shown Sunday afternoon at New York Fashion Week, a Polynesian-themed swirl of palm fronds, Tahitian florals and shimmering eyelash-like beaded trims.

The look: Tropical lounge with a folksy charm.

The inspiration: Tropical vibrations, artful draping and languid fabrics dancing with color and light, according to show notes.

Key pieces: Tahitian floral silk drop shoulder top and swing skirt with scattered beaded embroidery. Black-and-white fringe dot shell and burgundy silk dot pajama-style pants. Turquoise beaded palm frond tank over fluid polka dot pleated pants. Marine stripe knit skirt with raffia fringe trim, worn with a tank top. Graphic black-and-white chevron cardigan jacket and mini skirt.

The verdict: Funky and fun, and true to Thakoon’s boho ladylike spirit. It’s not easy to bring something new to the tiki lounge look, a perennial spring fashion theme, but he did it with a quirky mix of prints, polka dots and special details.
