New York Fashion Week: Monique Lhuillier’s femme fatales

Share

NEW YORK -- Anna Kendrick, Emmy Rossum, Jamie Chung, Louise Roe, Cat Deeley and Julie Henderson were front and center on Saturday night for red carpet favorite Monique Lhuillier’s fall 2014 runway show during New York Fashion Week.

The inspiration: The dark side of romance, the juxtaposition of modern, architectural details and Old World couture techniques. New materials, including neoprene and vinyl, combined with traditional guipure lace and baroque-looking embroidery. Edgy skull and scorpion details.

The look: Femme fatale.

Key pieces: Fuchsia tweed print neoprene bell sleeve shift dress. Fuchsia tweed print vinyl trench coat. Black silk georgette tie-front blouse with mink cuffs (so chic) tucked into tweed print pencil skirt. Gaucho pants worn with tall boots. Gold lace skull-embroidered cocktail sheath and bolero. Black lace dress with icicle-like silver beading. Blush V-neck illusion long-sleeve high-low gown. Black high-low gown and cape with fuchsia baroque embroidery.

The verdict: It was refreshing to see Lhuillier living on the edge and injecting some darkness into her sweet, feminine aesthetic. And her day wear continues to get stronger and stronger season after season.
