Paris Fashion Week: Miu Miu’s girls grown up

Miuccia Prada gathered a starry front row for her spring Miu Miu show Wednesday afternoon at Paris Fashion Week, including Shailene Woodley, Hailee Steinfeld and Liv Tyler.

What to make of the clothes was another matter. Fur-trimmed overcoats in pastel hues over tartan pencil skirts and ruffled midriff-baring tuxedo blouses. Sleeveless tops that looked like a homemade hodgepodge of vintage fabrics, over leather skirts, worn with ankle socks and bow-topped pumps.

It was winter wear for springtime, and maybe a bit of Goodwill chic. (Out with the embellishment!)

The models looked about as sad as is humanly possible, with slicked-back wet hair and dour expressions. (Not smiling is par for the course, and it was the last day of a very long runway season, but this was different.)

Perhaps what Prada had in mind was disillusioned, 1960s-era boarding school brats a la Kiernan Shipka in “Mad Men.” Desperate to look sexy with not a lot to work with, they can’t wait to get older.

Ah, the folly of youth.
