How to dress for the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic in Los Angeles

Share

The fourth annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic is scheduled to take place on Oct. 5 at Will Rogers State Historic Park -- the grounds where Old Hollywood stars such as Clark Gable and Spencer Tracy once played. It’s always a stylish affair -- last year’s star-studded event drew actresses Zoe Saldana, Sofia Vergara and Ali Larter among others.

For the third year in a row, fashion entrepreneur Rachel Zoe and husband Rodger Berman will co-host, along with Veuve Clicquot U.S. president Vanessa Kay and famed Argentine polo player-turned-model Nacho Figueras and his wife, Delfina Blaquier. (Figueras will lead his team in the match, which will benefit the park.)

Plenty of fashion will be on display during the day, and as the official style sponsor, Neiman Marcus Beverly Hills is offering polo-chic outfits in advance of the match. The collection of looks, displayed on mannequins and in store windows, includes: (pictured) a striped silk Celine blouse ($2,450) with a Kaufman Franco pencil skirt ($895), Chloe bag ($775), and Alberto Fermani boots ($650); and a tailored orange Victoria Beckham dress ($2,350); with a Chloe saddlebag ($1,295) and Rag & Bone booties ($495).

For polo newbies, Neiman Marcus personal shopper Catherine Bloom offers style and etiquette tips on a style page on the classic’s website. Her advice for the ladies is to leave heels at home and step out in flats or wellies -- a practical choice if the ground is wet. She also suggests dresses or skirts that hit at the knee or below.

“One should never be dressed [so] revealing that it can distract the players or ponies,” Bloom notes.

As for the gentlemen, Bloom says that collared shirts, whether polo or button-down, are a must. She also recommends a tailored jacket, noting Brunello Cucinelli or Isaia as top labels.

General admission tickets at $50 each seemed to be sold out as of Friday. But this year, for the first time, spectators can purchase reserved seating at picnic tables on the south side of the field for a Clicquot Picnic that includes a four-course gourmet lunch, two bottles of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label and prime views of the match (from $300 per person).

Tickets for the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic at Will Rogers Historic State Park in Pacific Palisades are available at vcpoloclassic.com; fashion at Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills, 9700 Wilshire Blvd.; (310) 550-5900.
