New York Fashion Week fall 2013: Rag & Bone review
NEW YORK -- With Nemo wreaking rush-hour havoc outside, Rag & Bone designers David Neville and Marcus Wainwright kept the crowd happy and warm inside, serving beer, mulled wine and pretzels before their fall-winter 2013 runway show Friday night during New York Fashion Week.
The look: Sixties inspired, with a little punk and grunge thrown in for good measure. A new, menswear-inspired proportion with boxy jumper dresses and quilted leather or tweed jackets worn with cropped utility pants or miniskirts. (The exposed control-top tights worn underneath the shorter looks probably won’t catch on in the real world, but it made for a neat styling trick.) Palette included fatigue green, black and gray laced with electric blue, pink, purple and hazard orange accents, bright tweeds and quilted details. The hot new shoe is a quilted pony skin loafer bootie, and everyone’s going to want a pair.
The scene: The cold, wet fashion masses turned out in all their finery. And so did celeb friend of the house Drew Barrymore.
The verdict: A slam dunk. The thing about Rag & Bone is that the collection always manages to be directional (the use of color and texture here was fabulous) but is full of enough covetable basics that there is something for everyone.
