The glorious ear cuff has decorated female ears for thousands of years, from ancient ornate kaffas to feminine mid-20th century Earrites, which were worn by stars such as Lucille Ball and Marilyn Monroe. Today’s ear cuffs, worn by Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Lawrence, Miley Cyrus and others, lend a bold, modern and somewhat edgy flavor to a look, whether they are worn as a cuff, an ear crawler swirling up the ear or as a hook over the top of the ear. And they don’t necessarily require ear piercing.

Here are some holiday-ready designer takes on the modern ear cuff.

British designer Maria Francesca Pepe’s multi-colored gold ear cuff is made in Italy of 23-karat plated gold, with Swarovski crystals and faux pearls. It’s sold as a single ear cuff to hook over the top lobe. $271 at SophiesCloset.com.
